statement

As a figurative painter, I have always been interested in the body and its ability to communicate.  I am drawn to informal images that depict the routine movements and motions of our everyday lives, finding a certain honesty and truth in the physicality of these ordinary movements.  My current paintings are a study of the individuals who work at a local deli, focusing on the repetitive daily tasks of work.

My process begins with the selection and distillation of images.  Through the use of video I visually document the activities of the deli, sift through the video footage and intuitively select out images, which are then translated into photographs.  I make further selections from the photographic images to translate into paintings.  The use of video and photography create distortions in form, color, lighting and space, and I am interested in the process of translating these formal abstractions through the medium and act of painting.
