statement
This painting of the Shaman is from a series I'm currently developing. The complete vision I have of who this man is and what he is doing is elusive. As with everything I paint I begin with an image the metaphor or meaning of which I don't understand at that point. It's the image first, then after spending time with the series and working through the process everything else slowly takes shape and falls into place. At one time I thought this was Isaiah the prophet, who at one point in his prophetical life walked the earth naked for 3 years. At another time I had an idea that he was Mars the ancient Roman god of war and agriculture. At another point he seemed to me to be a shaman of some sort either prophesying or conjuring up a storm for some unknown purpose. In the end he is probably all of these things meshed together as all of my interests and influences are in my mind.
