statement
I have been an artist for over twenty years during that time wood has been my material of choice. Sculpture has been my primary medium.
I'm drawn to intricate objects, simple forms of complex construction, which provide sustained visual pleasure. My sculptures are forms constructed of hundreds of pieces of wood forming a unique whole.
My latest work utilizes wood culled from landfills in Vermont. I am drawn to this material for its innate beauty and reflection of the past implied by the worn and weathered surfaces.
The pieces in this evolving series are constructed on flat panels pieces of wood are uniformly cut and sanded and meticulously joined together most often with a series of fine wire nails and brads fastened upon a precisely drawn grid. The results being objects that inhabit a unique space between painting and sculpture, referencing many of my interests from quilting to architecture.
