statement
I make quiet paintings in a noisy world. My work is an intimate meditation on humble objects and the detritus of studio life. The process of methodically considering light and color is my way of understanding the world and my ever-evolving place in it. "Stretch" is part of an ongoing series exploring self-portraiture through private space and personal objects. I aim to promote a reengagement with the mundane while creating a moment of reflection for the viewer.
Content arises from formal choices; the constant search for visual harmony energizes my practice. The careful observation and subsequent depiction of concrete space, light, and air, through the plastic vehicle of oil paint, begins as a documentation of my own existence. Broader questions about absence and presence arise from these so-called 'empty' studio spaces and abandoned objects, ultimately fueling the act of visual discovery.
