statement
Brushstrokes undulate between becoming and disintegrating, accruing as ambiguous forms. Slight hints and subtle clues allow only partial recognition. Through the process of painting, an image emerges to represent the structure of specific occurrences that demand a visual, not verbal, description. Can painting articulate the unnamed? Often my compositions contain simultaneous positions: into, over, out of, under, and above all creating a visual sensation of flux. A quiet explosion/implosion. The evocation of action, light, and time works to keep the painting alive: growing, adapting, fading, deteriorating, congealing, becoming. To me abstraction feels closer to reality and therefore more true or honest than rendering the representation of an object or thing. How does every sensorial or experiential detail distill into a whole and shape reality?
Painting is thinking. Color, surface tactility, scale, and structure are remnants of careful considerations, fleeting tangents, and what if alchemies. Feeling the untouchable, narrating the ineffable, and hearing silence. I am essentially a painter, so any medium I use resolves as a painting. My aim is to emphasize, elicit, and transform light through a variety of means: incandescent canvases, light-fracturing diamond or gem formations, and surfaces that capture, reflect, or distort light. I seek to heighten visual awareness, slow cognition, distort expectations, and reward careful observation.
