statement

Marshall Jones' recent series explores the role of imagery in the collective unconscious. His paintings  what it means to exist in a culture soaked in imagery and how those images shape us, crafting our desires, needs and prejudices. This series is a response to the work of social psychologists Ernest Becker and Sheldon Solomon. Particularly Solomon's lab research on the power of symbols and our multiple responses to them. Jones' work explores how semiotics are   used in all forms of art as a shorthand to to tell stories based on our shared understanding of iconic imagery.
