statement
My current work is inspired by objects that show evidence of their history in their surfaces. I explore themes of time and nostalgia through imagery of antique coins or mechanical objects. I am interested in the idea of beauty created by the history and weathering of objects.
I use a technique known as Venetian painting, or painting in layers, in order to render detailed surfaces. Painting small objects, such as antique coins, on a large scale allows me to explore the abstraction that happens within realism. My paintings are not intended to be photo realistic but rather to show the beauty in details through smaller vignettes that allow the viewer to see objects in a new way.
