statement

In my prints, the awe that landscapes direct towards the natural world is parodied and inverted towards a non-physical, mental space that focuses on the individual. These landscapes are in transitional periods of time. It is either the beginning or end of a day, during the moment just before or after a crisis. The temporality of personal experience is partly what makes it meaningful. As an exercise, I sometimes imagine that all the figures in my prints are about to experience a tragedy. Simultaneously many of those moments could have a positive outcome. The possibility of danger or safety is like an inkblot test for the viewer.
