statement
I'm drawn to subjects that lend themselves to metaphor and memory. In this group of photographs, Presence and Absence, I am looking for ways of directly representing the essential nature of objects that are meaningful to me.
This work employs the 19th century wet-plate collodion process. Rattan Cases is a one-of-a-kind, 4" x 5" ferrotype (tintype).
One of the many reasons I am drawn to this technique is that it requires me to slow down, experiencing both the patience and stillness required by the extended exposure time as well as anticipation of the singular, mysterious images that result.
