My three graphite drawings were inspired by the Eyreville Plantation; an old plantation on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. The owner of the plantation was gracious in allowing me access to his property for a photo opportunity. He not only showed me around the grounds and inside the many buildings, but also shared stories about the property's past history and occupants. Eyreville is a hidden gem of several hundred acres situated along water and marsh, surrounded by vast open fields. The once beautiful and bustling plantation is now silent and in disrepair. The main house is enveloped in an eerie calm. I felt the stillness and beauty of the structure held the mystery of memories past. What was once vibrant, is now surrounded by an aura of sadness. Passageways and furnishings echo reminders of those who lived and loved within its walls. I have tried to convey this atmosphere in my drawings while, at the same time, instilling the warmth and beauty that once existed.

I am a physician from Newport News, Virginia and I have been creating art for the past 15 years. Drawing with graphite is a passionate adventure for me, providing balance in my life and bringing me great joy. I love the feel of the pencil in my hand. I strive to create mood and feeling in my work. I want the spirit of the place to be felt by the viewer. I want the viewer to be touched by the subject in a positive way, much the same way that I am.
