My work finds patterns in accumulation where new meanings derive from hybridization and mutation and the time-intensive, repetitive mark of drawing that binds disparate imagery. In "Phoenix" my interests turn towards the gated tennis and golf communities wedged within the urban sprawl of Florida's strip malls and theme parks. Here, a host of unlikely juxtapositions become a fitting metaphor recalling fallen idols, displaced rivalries, and the paradoxes of consumerist-fueled distractions. Within lush sprawling lawns and endless patterns of white boundary lines exists a synthesis of the natural and the artificial, where underlying competitive drives, mythical beasts, and our collective obsessions cohabitate.
