statement
The human figure in action inspires my work. The crouched figure at work, the jogger on his daily run, the model in the life-room - are all subjects worthy of my attention. I also like to seek out the action in a apparently still person - a lifted toe, the pressed palm are all secrets waiting for expression.
By capturing the people around me performing their everyday tasks, I discover the continuous thread running through our lives. I also like to use urban spaces and common objects as the context to uncover the connection between unrelated individuals.
Drawing has a special place in my heart. It was through drawing that I discovered my artistic abilities, so it will always be meaningful to me. Humble materials like charcoal and a piece of paper allow me to bring the human form to life. I like to exploit the unique characteristics of charcoal, sanguine, graphite and ink to create the mood I want in my work.
