statement

I am interested in representing the human figure within the realm of photorealism, and continuing a conversation with artists of the past, such as Rococo pastel artist Rosalba Carriera, as well as contemporary artists, like Susan Hauptman.  I am also drawn to the photograph; there is a certain intimacy and preciousness about a photograph, and I wish to keep an underlying tone of it in my drawings.  My artwork is centered on portraiture and identity.  My pastel drawings explore ideas of fragility, beauty, emotion, and sexuality through my representation of the human form.  The figures I represent reflect the meticulous and delicate nature of the pastel medium.  This fragility references the vulnerability of the subject.
