statement
The essence of artistic creation in any of its forms, involves research.
This research is linked with my personal interests and obsessions, often turned into projections of my own personality.
In this case my work studies the conflicts which are generated between architecture and its environments, specifically those being derived from the urban massification and the concept of hyper-density.
As an architect, I divided my work into 4 scales or fields of interest: "Planimetry Series" where I explore the relationship between human scale and territory, "Excesses Series" conceived as a reflection of the fears and worries arisen from nowadays' society structure, "Yard Series" where I propose virtual scenarios which can be extrapolated to the city environment and "Math Series" in which compositions are generated from spatial development formulas related to mathematical and geometrical algorithms.
The work entitled Interstices II, being part of "Math Series", reflects an imaginary architecture. Drawing architecture and character photography are joined together to create a contemporary collage. I use collage technique for these works because I believe real architecture is a collage itself.
Space contextualization conferred by the characters appearing in these works, suggests an indefinite time frame, which could be set either in the 20th or the 21st century.
The composition is a research in which numerical harmony and proportion is related to prime numbers. Based on a prime numbers system from 1 to 11, a modular development is designed whose occupancy is defined by different levels. The color variation of the modules and their place in the virtual mesh are a consequence of the algorithm.
By contrast with the previously mentioned series, the works arisen from this mathematical premise are experimental in nature, with the result prevailing over the idea.
The incidence of light represented by cast reddish shadows, give the ensemble a look of vintage photography, confronting us with the paradox of handling representation codes closer to comic drawing than to photography or painting.
