statement
My drawings are the result of a process governed by rules. I attempt to imitate (naively) the mechanical processes of printers and scanners. Working on graph paper, each drawing is made by shading one square at a time, in vertical lines from left to right, until the drawing is complete. The drawings are based on photographs, and my copy or reproduction is an attempt to faithfully transfer and generalize the vital information of the image. This process allows me to put-forth and obscure the information that creates the image, often times making something strange and unfamiliar out of a mundane source photo. The images I choose to draw come from a variety of places and vary in what they represent, but each image deals with aspects of consumerism and technology. My drawings are intended to function as small interventions in a larger process of image reproduction and distribution.
