Registration Deadline: January 8, 2025

Description:

Building upon the fundamentals of figure drawing discussed in An Introduction to Figure Drawing (and/or the student’s prior experience with figure drawing), the second class of our Figure Series explores ways of placing the figure in convincing environments. The class will work from a model and include an analysis of perspective, composition, the figure in clothing, multiple figures in space, and ways the figure/space relationships might form a sense of narrative.

In this class, students will explore:

• Composition, with an emphasis on mass relationships
• Building space as a response to the figure
• Understanding value and figure/space relationships
• Considering negative and positive correlations and tensions
• Developing the ability to respond to the model and the inhabited space quickly through gesture and the ability to refine drawings with a slower, more-considered contour line

Tuition: $380
Course fee covers live models for all class meetings

Minimum: 4
Maximum: 12
