Description:
This final course of our Figure Series—an independent study workshop—is designed to provide the artist an opportunity to investigate their own project within a supportive, vibrant community. Utilizing models as a resource, each week may begin with a new theme or prompt for artists to wrestle with before discussing student-specific problem-solving challenges. Poses may carry over multiple weeks. Students will benefit from the co-learning environment, working alongside other artists’ investigations and with access to regular instructor feedback.
This class will cover the following topics:
- Methods for developing an ongoing connection to the figure in your studio work
- Strategies for creating more imaginative (yet still credible) figurative imagery
- Participating in critical, figure-considerate dialogue
- Meaningful engagement with historical and current trends in figurative art
Tuition: $380
Course fee covers live models for all class meetings
Class Size:
Minimum: 4
Maximum: 12
Materials List:
Beyond a sketchbook and other drawing pads, students are encouraged to bring in their preferred materials and surfaces. Individual projects will dictate the necessary materials from week to week. All solvents must be odorless.
Level of Study: Students should have prior experience with figure drawing (this may include having regularly attended our uninstructed Open Figure sessions in the past). The Figurative Studio is designed for artists looking to take their figure drawing beyond a foundational exploration toward refined imagery capable of communicating ideas via the human form.
LOCATION: Unless otherwise specified, all courses are hosted at Manifest's new facility at 'M1' in Clifton at 3464 Central Parkway (see map and directions below). Manifest's new facility provides multiple studio classrooms, private lesson space, a darkroom, a film processing room, and a multi-purpose lecture and class meeting space as well as on-site parking, grounds, and exterior spaces in which to relax, discuss, and make art. The studios are outfitted with professional equipment, furniture, and study aids.
