INVESTIGATING THE HUMAN FORM THROUGH VISUAL ART

Life Drawing, or drawing from a live model, is often considered the most challenging and illuminating of all observational drawing experiences. Every time we draw from the model, we devote ourselves to a live subject with unique visual characteristics, energy, and personality. Through the figure, we have constant opportunities to explore every element of art (line, shape, value, color, texture, etc.) and principle of design (balance, proportion, economy, movement, variety, etc.). But with a bit of guidance, with a mentor offering a foundation or starting point, the human form can be manageable.

Whether you’re brand new to figure drawing or you’re looking to hone your general drawing skills, Manifest Drawing Center’s ongoing series of figure-drawing classes—taught by our Resident Instructor, Scott Ramming—has been designed to offer you the tools and community needed to create responsive drawings that utilize the human form to communicate meaningful ideas to your world.

Sign up for any class within the series individually—as a “refresher” on a specific topic—or register for the entire four-class series for a significant discount.

Instructor

Resident Instructor, Scott Ramming
is an artist living and producing work in the Madisonville neighborhood of Cincinnati. He received his BFA from Middle Tennessee State University and has taught painting at Mount Gretna School of Art.

Within the Manifest ecosystem, Scott has served as a moderator for the Drawing Center’s Open Figure sessions for over eleven years and has shown at Manifest Gallery several times, including a solo exhibition in 2021.

With a background in painting and drawing, he works from observation and imagination, utilizing the figure, landscapes, and still life. His practice is rooted in gestural intuition while maintaining a dialog with art history.
