statement
My art practice is primarily devoted to representational paintings and commissioned portraits, although I also enjoy creating multi-media installations on a regular basis.
"Neither Corley Nor Excalibur" is one in a series of 11 paintings called "e.strange". I position the works in a contemporary context, focusing on the modern communication devices found worldwide but contrasting them with the "old world" origins of the equestrian portrait. Each painting presents a different set of twinned portraits, subjects which are nonetheless separated by the young person's absorption in an unseen world, through cell phone and i-pod, as well as the horse's seeming unawareness of its human counterpart. I wish to pose questions about the directions in which contemporary digital communications are taking us and if, indeed, communication is really improved.
My next series of 15 paintings continues this focus on communication devices but placed this time in an art historical context.
