statement
Drawing and painting are visual experiences. For me it involves observing the world around me in more and more detail as the work progresses. Colors, values, and edges change and evolve. I strive to make work that is detailed, yet feels like a first impression. This body of work is informed by fractal geometry. One approach to fractal geometry is to look at an object at different sizes of resolution. I use squares of different sizes to reflect the different sizes of resolution. A portrait is a natural subject for this exploration, because some parts of the face demand more attention than others.
