statement
I have always felt the presence of painting in my life, since at a very young age I became aware of the art around me in Italy and of the Renaissance painters among my ancestors ( among them Cosimo Rosselli, who painted in the Sistine Chapel).
Particularly since my practice has developed after moving to London almost twenty years ago, my work is always imbibed with a yearning for the Mediterranean - Goethe called this the Drang nach dem S¸den: for the warmth of Italian light, for the elegance of classic proportions, for the grace of italian art.
The surface of my paintings is granular, dry and dusty, with an echo of the coarsely ground pigments I use.
I work from observation.
I find it difficult to work outside my studio, I think there's a lot going on even in that very confined space.
