statement
My inclusion in this publication, and more specifically, my inclusion in this publication alongside the other artists, under the heading "contemporary international photography" is, for me not only a great honor, but also a significant personal milestone in 36 years of image making.
The image included was taken on December 5th, 2012 at 10:37 a.m. and depicts a large flock of rock pigeons all simultaneously taking flight in a small, empty alley (known as College Street) in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio. At this time, I had been taking photographs everyday for about 3 months.
I cannot say specifically what it was that compelled me to pick up a camera other than a deep need to create visual images. As I continue to pursue the medium on a daily basis -- throughout the remainder of 2012 up to the present time, there is never a time when my camera is not with me.
On the role of photography in my work, life and study. Insofar as the three are inseparable, photography and the camera are as indispensable as language. It is simply a versatile tool for expression.
