statement
I grew up a first generation Chinese American living in suburbia, often fighting with my parents and trying to bridge the gap between my Chinese heritage and this new American culture. There wasnít always fighting, there were also trips back to my parentís homeland to Taiwan. The bright lights of the raw food stands, with visceral meat hanging from hooks, left a stamp on my mind that filled me with wonderment and disgust simultaneously. As an artist, I believe that I am sharing my experiences with the viewers, although they may not be the exact ones, that feeling and inner dialogue still exists. Even though the viewer canít actually smell the fresh blood from the carcass, perhaps they will still wrinkle their nose. Iím asking the viewer to come a little closer, dig in their culture and history, compare it against what they see and experience what it means to be multicultural.
