statement
I have been creating art since I was a child, and cultivated my talent though classes at Western Hills High School. In 2004, I began creating my art at Visionaries and Voices, a local non-profit arts organization that provides support for self-taught, outsider artists.
I could be described as an artistic cartographer: a map artist. My work consists of highly detailed aerial drawings of Greater Cincinnati and my favorite historic landmarks in Cincinnati. I draw the maps entirely from memory, and often add visual commentary and imagery remembered from festivals, construction sites, and events he encounters on my walks around the city. Each map varies in size and theme, and are carefully drawn over a period of 9 months or more. I exclusively work in ballpoint pen, adding layer upon layer of detail and visual narrative to each piece.
My work has been shown in national galleries and festivals, such as the Cincinnati Contemporary Arts Center, The Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center, Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal, Red Tree Gallery, Slotin Folk Festival, and the Good Folk Festival. More recently I spent time as the Artist in Residence at Madison High School, where I worked with students and educated them about my artistic process.
