statement
Stimulated by the traditions of representational painting, my works are indelibly linked to their subjects. Achieving accuracy and likeness, however, are not the reasons I set out to make a painting, they are simply conditions of its being.
My work often develops from unexpected visual encounters that fascinate and tug at me; glances that lead to sustained observation and enduring, meaningful relationships. I want my drawings and paintings to have an undeniable visceral presence, an abstract and atmospheric visual space that speaks to a level of mystery and offers a depth of emotions.
