statement
Drawing has always played an important role in my creative process, from the sketching of an idea to the finished work of art.
These drawings are part of a body of works which began several years ago with the Machinature‚ project.
The principal source of my inspiration dates back to the very origin of Machines, the Paleolithic era, when the principal concern of the Homo Neanderthalensis was to transform a neutral object into something that would be of benefit to him.
My work is an analysis of different natural forms and an interpretation of their potential of transformation (ex. archaic tools and toys, mechanical devices, and architectural structures).
I am particularly interested in the juxtaposition of the organic and the manufactured, the physical and the mental. I like eliminating their boundaries to create a new Universe, composed of semi-natural, semi-mechanical structures: Machinatures. I am intrigued by the instant when both natural and man-made environments abandon their original function, their primary identity, to begin together a new existence, an unexplored purpose.
