statement
I have never ceased to draw. Drawing has always been a method of training my hand to record my immediate environment, ideas and visions. It has provided me with a quick and effective opportunity to convey insights. I draw continually when I am travelling and always keep available pocket-size pads and pens. In my studio, materials, mark making tools and surfaces, surround me and I am constantly experimenting with mixed media drawing. I sometimes select and refine these drawings either as a basis for paintings, exhibit as finished works or give them away as gifts to friends.
Drawing has been a means of recording sudden thoughts or personally meaningful impressions and sometimes as a preparation for work in other media. I have used them to experiment with, advance, summarize, or rework problems of continuing interest to me.
Recently, drawing has become more than a tool for learning or preparation for work in other media. It has become a means of communicating for its own sake. The diversity that drawing offers as a means of expressing concepts that capture my attention go far beyond the narrow limits of the graphic effects of pen, pencil and/or charcoal on paper. Drawing has become a significant means of expression and it is developing as a central part of the work that I create.
